I get it.
With comparison sites, online reviews, Instagram inspiration and a thousand tabs open, it feels like booking a holiday should be quick and straightforward. A few clicks, a confirmation email, and that’s it sorted.
And sometimes… it is.
But what I’ve learned from years of planning holidays for real people (with real lives, real expectations and very real budgets) is this:
booking a holiday is easy – booking the right holiday takes a bit more care.
That’s where a personal travel agent quietly comes into their own.
Holidays aren’t one-size-fits-all (even if websites pretend they are)
Some people want to completely switch off. Some want to explore every corner. Some want great food, some want peace and quiet, some want a bit of buzz – just not too much buzz.
This is why, when clients get in touch, I don’t start with “where do you want to go?”.
I start with “how do you want to feel?”
Relaxed. Excited. Reconnected. Looked after. Like you’ve genuinely had a break.
That one question changes everything. It guides the destination, the hotel, the flight timings, even how much moving around will actually feel enjoyable rather than exhausting. It’s also the bit no search filter can quite manage.
The internet gives you options… but not always clarity
Online research is brilliant – until it isn’t.
It won’t tell you that a hotel is lovely but miles from where you’ll actually want to spend your evenings. Or that a resort is peaceful in June but very lively in August. Or that a “short transfer” feels much longer at the end of a long-haul flight.
My role is to add context, experience and a bit of honest reality, so you don’t arrive thinking “this looked different online.”
The part of holiday planning you never see
Behind the scenes, there’s a lot more going on than simply clicking “book”.
I’m checking flight routings that make sense, timings that won’t wipe you out, reliable suppliers, room categories (they’re not all created equal), hotel layouts, noise levels and whether something is genuinely good value – not just cheap.
And if plans change? Flights move, schedules shift, availability disappears – I deal with it.
No hold music. No explaining your story for the fifth time. Just one person who knows your booking and sorts it.
When things don’t go exactly to plan
Because sometimes they don’t – and that’s just travel.
This is usually when people realise the value of having someone in their corner. Instead of automated emails and call centres, you have a real person who can step in, problem-solve and help keep things moving.
It’s not dramatic. It’s just reassuring.
Value is more than the headline price
Booking online can look cheaper, but value is about more than numbers on a screen.
It’s about getting it right first time, avoiding costly mistakes, feeling confident in your choices, and knowing you’re supported if you need help.
I’m not here to sell you the most expensive holiday – I’m here to help you choose the one that fits you best.
So… does a personal travel agent still matter?
I think so.
Because holidays are precious. They’re time you’ve worked hard for. They’re memories you’ll talk about long after the unpacking is done.
If you want a holiday that’s thoughtfully planned, tailored to how you want to feel, and supported from start to finish, that’s exactly what I do.
And if you’re not quite sure where to start? That’s absolutely fine – most people aren’t.
